Camp GLOW is a week long overnight English summer for young women in high school. I have never experienced anything quite like it. Each morning the girls would go to a series of classes in topics such as environmental awareness, women’s studies, sexual education and of course all of the fun dance and sport classes. The object of the camp is to get girls from all over Macedonia, with different religions and ethnicities, to get together and form relationships. The girls spoke many different languages including Macedonian, Albainian and Turkish, their only common language between the girls was English. It was amazing to see all of the girls get along and form new relationships despite the ethnic tension. At the end of the camp the girls all cried and begged to stay. I think this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my Peace Corps service so far.
